No rest for the wicked review

Thoughts on ‘No Rest for the Wicked’ Early Access

With continued development, this title could become a standout addition to the soulslike genre.

So I’ve been spending a lot of time with No Rest for the Wicked. And I love it. Or hate it? Maybe both? One thing is for sure. It is fun as heck, and maybe that’s all that counts.

From the moment you dive into No Rest for the Wicked, you’re thrown into a world unlike any other. Well maybe like some others. Specifically Diablo, Dark Souls, and Ori and the Blind Forest. But that’s not a knock on the game. Developed by Moon Studios, this game promises to shake up the Action RPG scene.

In this game, you play as Cerim, a warrior with incredible powers. Your mission? To take down the Pestilence and restore peace to a troubled land. But let me tell you, it’s not as simple as it sounds. It’s a soulslike game and the difficulty and frustrations come with it. Along the way, you’ll face tough choices and get caught up in the land’s political mess. The game really keeps you on your toes with all its twists and turns.

If you’ve played games like Diablo or Dark Souls, you’ll feel right at home here. The game borrows some of the better features from those classics. From the randomized loot and enemy encounters to the challenging boss fights and stamina management, it’s a real treat for fans of the genre. If you’re not use to these types of games I suggest you come into No Rest for the Wicked with a lot of patience.

But what really caught my eye is the game’s stunning art style. It’s dark, moody, and reminds me a lot of Moon Studios’ previous work, Ori and the Blind Forest. The characters are well-designed, and the voice acting adds a nice touch to the storytelling. It’s just fun to look at. Period.

Now, let’s talk about the not-so-great stuff. One thing that bugs me is the durability loss when you die. Just the durability in general to be honest. In a game where you’re expected to die a lot to learn boss patterns, this penalty feels more annoying than challenging. The stamina system could use some tweaking too. And let’s not forget the performance issues. Holy shyt man! Even with my 3080 graphics card, I experienced some frustrating frame drops and long loading times. Now it’s not the latest and greatest, but it should not be performing this way especially on the lowest of settings.

But hey, the game is still in early access, so there’s hope for improvement. Moon Studios has big plans for No Rest for the Wicked, including adding multiplayer modes, more story content, and new regions to explore. I’m excited to see where they take it!
